Australia labour force employment growth slows in March 2026 raising bearish risks for AUDUSD

The Australian Bureau of Statistics reported a significant decline in Australia’s Labour Force Monthly Employment Change for March 2026. The employment change, which is seasonally adjusted, is now recorded at an increase of 17.9K positions, down from the previous month’s strong performance of 48.9K jobs added in February. This decline indicates a slowing pace in job creation within the Australian economy as fewer positions were filled compared to the prior month. The reduction in the number of jobs added may reflect various economic pressures or fluctuations in demand that have impacted the labour market.

Regarding the AUDUSD currency pair, the reported decrease in employment change is potentially bearish for the Australian Dollar (AUD). Currency values are often sensitive to economic indicators such as employment data, as it reflects the overall health of an economy. A lower-than-expected increase in employment may signal to investors and traders that the economy is facing challenges. This could lead to reduced confidence in the AUD, prompting investors to seek other currencies perceived as having stronger economic fundamentals. As a result, the AUD may weaken against the US Dollar (USD), possibly leading to a depreciation in the AUDUSD exchange rate. However, the extent of this impact can also depend on upcoming economic data, global market conditions, and central bank policies.
